Debate over counting nuclear power in EU renewables target
Original: Ein Erneuerbaren-Ziel, bei dem # Atomkraft mitgezählt wird? Das ist wie ein Veggie-Wettbewerb, bei dem die Bratwurst pun
A discussion in German-speaking energy circles is criticising plans to count nuclear power towards the EU's renewable energy target under the Renewable Energy Directive. Critics compare it to a sausage scoring points in a vegetarian contest, arguing the directive has driven the energy transition for years and should not be diluted by including atomic energy. Supporters of nuclear's inclusion point to its low-carbon balance sheet.
Why now: The EU is revising its Renewable Energy Directive, and whether nuclear counts toward renewables targets is a contested political question.
