Andean desert near Atacama gets some of Earth's strongest sunlight

Original: 🏜️ NEW: A high-altitude # desert in the # Andes , near the # Atacama , receives some of the strongest # sunlight recorde

A high-altitude desert in the Andes, near the Atacama, receives some of the strongest sunlight recorded on Earth. Its thin, dry air and consistently clear skies allow more solar radiation to reach the surface, pushing light intensity there close to levels measured in outer space. The finding highlights the region's extreme environment and its appeal for solar research and astronomy.

Why now: The striking comparison of Earth-based sunlight levels to those in space is capturing scientific curiosity.
