Two military pilots from the Russian Knights aerobatic display team are reported to have died on October 21. According to an official message from the aviation group, three graduates of the Kachinskoye flight school — Yerofeyev, Alekseyev and Shcheglov — greeted each other that morning before the fatal events involving two of them. Details of the circumstances have not been confirmed independently, and Russian authorities have not given a full account.
Why now: The deaths of elite display-team pilots are striking because such teams are a symbol of Russian military prestige, and the circumstances remain murky.
