A commentary published by The 19th argues that Donald Trump's anti-trans rhetoric follows a political playbook with a long history in American politics, rather than being a new development. The piece links current rhetoric targeting transgender people to earlier waves of politicized fear campaigns, prompting discussion online about historical parallels in how politicians deploy such attacks.
Why now: Ongoing debate over anti-trans political messaging in current US politics is driving attention to historical analysis of the tactic.
