Singapore and Indonesia launch joint task force against haze
Original: Singapore and Indonesia set up a task force to combat haze from illegal burning
Singapore and Indonesia have established a joint task force aimed at combating the recurring haze caused by illegal burning, much of it linked to land clearing for plantations in Indonesia. The haze has long strained ties between the two neighbours and affected public health across the region. The move signals closer cooperation on an issue that resurfaces during every dry season.
Why now: The announcement addresses the annual transboundary haze crisis, a long-running point of friction and public concern between the two countries.
