UAE hands life sentences over arms supplies to Sudan's army
Original: UAE sentences eight people to life over arms supplies to Sudan’s army
A court in the United Arab Emirates has sentenced eight people to life in prison over supplying weapons to Sudan's army, according to Al Jazeera. The case touches on the flow of arms into Sudan, where the army has been fighting the Rapid Support Forces in a devastating civil war, and the UAE's role in the conflict is already under international scrutiny.
Why now: The UAE has been widely accused of backing militias in Sudan's war, so any court case linking it to arms supplies draws immediate attention.
