SpaceX no longer needs NASA, and that worries the space agency
Original: SpaceX no longer needs NASA, and that's a problem for America's space agency
A new analysis argues that SpaceX has grown so capable that it no longer depends on NASA for launch contracts, technical support or legitimacy, a shift with serious consequences for the American space agency. With Starship development advancing and commercial missions multiplying, NASA risks becoming a customer rather than a partner, prompting debate over funding, direction and US space policy.
Why now: SpaceX's increasing independence from NASA raises fresh concerns about the future role and funding of America's space agency.
