Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago is facing protest from Illinois Right to Life after honouring a philanthropist who has donated to Planned Parenthood at an Oct. 29 banquet. Cupich defended the award, saying it is not an endorsement of every stance a person holds, but the pro-life group accused him of "scandalizing the faithful" and is urging Catholics to object to the decision.
Why now: A Catholic cardinal honouring a Planned Parenthood donor has reignited tensions between church leadership and pro-life activists.
