Indonesia-Singapore tensions flare over wildfires again
Original: The fraught relationship between Indonesia and Singapore has been stirred by new ructions over wildfires
Relations between Indonesia and Singapore have been strained anew by disputes over wildfires, with haze from Indonesian land clearing historically affecting Singapore's air quality. The two neighbours have long traded blame over responsibility for the fires, their causes, and who should bear the cost of prevention and cleanup, making the issue a recurring source of friction in the bilateral relationship.
Why now: New wildfires have reignited a long-standing point of tension between the two neighbours.
