On her first day as education secretary, Linda McMahon told Department of Education staff that their final mission was to help dismantle the department itself, according to a New York Times report. The story, which also touches on furniture and spending at the agency under President Trump, is drawing attention as people react to a cabinet member openly overseeing the closure of her own department.
Why now: The revelation that the education secretary's stated goal is to eliminate the agency she leads is striking and politically contentious.
