New citizens say their first votes carry family weight
Original: For voters from immigrant families and new citizens, voting is bigger than themselves
A new report highlights how voters from immigrant families and newly naturalized citizens across the United States view casting a ballot as an act larger than themselves, often honoring sacrifices made by parents and grandparents. Many describe voting as a way to shape the country that welcomed their families and to give voice to communities still finding their political footing.
Why now: Immigration and voter participation are prominent topics in the current election season.
