Switzerland opens new diplomatic office in North Korea
Original: Switzerland officially opens new diplomatic office in North Korea
Switzerland has officially opened a new diplomatic office in North Korea, according to NK News. The move underscores Bern's long-standing role as one of the few Western countries maintaining a diplomatic presence in Pyongyang, where it has historically acted as a protecting power for the United States and other nations. Details about the office's staffing and function were not immediately available.
Why now: Switzerland is one of very few Western nations with an on-the-ground diplomatic presence in North Korea, making the announcement notable amid otherwise limited engagement with Pyongyang.
