The Max Planck Institute for Astronomy hosted a colloquium by Alex Dimoff on stellar nucleosynthesis at its Königstuhl site near Heidelberg. Mark McCaughrean noted that the carbon, oxygen, nitrogen and trace elements visible in the autumn forest there were all forged in stars, combined with primordial hydrogen from the Big Bang, linking the talk to the everyday world outside.

Why now: The striking idea that an ordinary autumn landscape is made of star-forged elements, tied to a live scientific talk, resonated with science audiences.
