The US Army has awarded more than $4 billion in contracts for counterdrone systems, a major test of the Pentagon's newly launched drone marketplace, drones.mil. The platform was stood up earlier this year following an Army-led effort to streamline how defense companies compete to supply drone and counterdrone technology. The awards signal a significant investment in defending against unmanned aerial threats.
Why now: The scale of the contracts and the first major test of the Pentagon's new drones.mil procurement platform draw attention from defense observers.
