British intelligence cannot account for thousands of lost storage devices
Original: British intelligence misplaced 1000s of storage devices still can't say how many
British intelligence agencies have lost track of thousands of storage devices, and years later they still cannot say exactly how many are missing. The disclosure has prompted criticism over security handling of sensitive data, with commentators questioning how devices containing potentially classified material could go unaccounted for on such a scale without a reliable inventory or explanation.
Why now: A newly reported audit finding that UK intelligence lost thousands of storage devices without an accurate count has raised fresh concerns about data security oversight.
