Paramount Pulls $82M Film From 750 Theaters in Week 3
Original: Paramount’s $82M ‘Mortal Kombat’ Replacement Officially Removed From 750 Theaters in Week 3
Paramount has removed its $82 million film, released as a replacement for Mortal Kombat in its theatrical lineup, from around 750 theaters during its third week in release. The rapid pullback is being read as a sign of weak box office performance, with observers questioning how the studio will recoup the production budget after such an early and large-scale reduction in screening locations.
Why now: The unusually early withdrawal of a big-budget release from hundreds of theaters signals box office trouble and fuels debate about the film's commercial failure.
