Jules Verne's Lost Novel Sees Renewed Attention
Original: Jules Verne's Lost Novel
Jules Verne's long-suppressed novel 'Paris in the Twentieth Century', written in 1863 and rejected by his publisher as too pessimistic, is drawing fresh interest. The book imagines 1960s Paris with skyscrapers, high-speed trains and fax machines, and was only published in 1994 after the manuscript surfaced in the late 1980s. Readers are revisiting how accurately Verne anticipated modern technology and why the novel remained hidden for over a century.
Why now: Readers are discussing the rediscovered Verne manuscript and its eerily accurate predictions about modern technology.
