Congress Bills Criticized for Backing Misleading Recycling Claims
Original: "Peak Greenwashing": Two Bills in Congress Endorse Misleading Recycling Claims
A ProPublica report accuses two bills in the US Congress of endorsing misleading claims about plastics recycling, calling it 'peak greenwashing'. The legislation reportedly promotes recycling narratives the plastics industry has long used despite limited actual recycling of most plastic products. Critics say the bills would legitimize industry messaging rather than address plastic waste, sparking debate about greenwashing and the gap between recycling promises and reality.
Why now: A new investigative report on recycling legislation has renewed public criticism of plastics industry greenwashing.
