China warns sidelining development undermines human rights
Chinese state media report that Beijing is warning that excluding development from global priorities undermines human rights. China argues economic development is a fundamental precondition for realizing rights, framing its position against approaches that emphasize civil and political liberties first. The message comes as human rights debates continue at international forums, where China frequently pushes back on Western criticism of its record.
Why now: China is publicly advancing its development-first framing of human rights amid ongoing international rights debates.
