Original: poolse president nawrocki
Polish President Karol Nawrocki is at the centre of a deepening political crisis after a night-time confrontation involving judges of the Constitutional Tribunal. A judge's suspension has spiralled into chaos at the court, with critics warning the rule of law is under severe strain and some describing events as a 'coup' at the courthouse. Nawrocki's plane turned back amid the escalating tensions, and opposition figures claim Poland is becoming a police state.
Why now: An overnight standoff between the president and Constitutional Tribunal judges has triggered fears of a full constitutional crisis in Poland.
