Oleshky evacuees return to Ukraine under Melania Trump-brokered ceasefire
Displaced residents of Oleshky, a Ukrainian city in Kherson region occupied since 2022, are reported to be returning to Ukraine under a ceasefire deal credited to Melania Trump's mediation. The reported returns would mark a rare movement of civilians out of occupied territory amid renewed peace efforts between Ukraine and Russia.
Why now: A ceasefire reportedly brokered by Melania Trump has enabled evacuees from occupied Oleshky to cross back into Ukrainian-controlled territory, a striking development in the peace process.
