Pitcher Dustin May has declined his mutual option and entered free agency, prompting debate about whether the St. Louis Cardinals could bring him back. May was a strong fit during his previous stint with the club, but observers note that a reunion may be too complicated financially or logistically to pull off this offseason, leaving his destination uncertain as free agency unfolds.

Why now: May just declined his option and hit the market, making his next team a live offseason storyline.
