Researchers report that esophageal squamous cell carcinomas resistant to the chemotherapy drug cisplatin were suppressed by Huayu Wan, a traditional Chinese remedy, in laboratory and mouse experiments. Combining the remedy with another treatment appeared to enhance its efficacy. The findings are drawing attention as a possible lead for tackling chemotherapy resistance, though results so far come only from preclinical work rather than human trials.
