Russian President Vladimir Putin is claiming that Russian intelligence has intercepted plans for a major Israeli 'false-flag' attack on the United States, which he says would cause '90 days of total darkness'. The claim, framed as an urgent warning to the West and likened to 9/11, carries no supporting evidence and contradicts official positions of both governments. The claim is unverified and likely false.

Why now: The dramatic and unsubstantiated claim about war and an attack on the US is spreading rapidly online amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.
