The United States Senate has blocked a resolution seeking accountability measures against Israel, prompting anger among some Australian commentators. Critics say both the Albanese government's Labor party and US lawmakers are shielding Israel from consequences over the treatment of Australian citizens, including members of aid flotillas and aid workers killed in Gaza. Supporters of the block argue such resolutions are one-sided.
Why now: The Senate vote revived debate over alleged Australian casualties linked to Gaza aid efforts and perceived government inaction.
