Metropolitan Police arrested a woman outside the US Embassy in London for holding a placard whose wording mirrored a statement previously made by the wife of the National Security Advisor. Police had earlier ruled that exact statement did not meet the criminal threshold, prompting accusations of inconsistent and politically skewed enforcement against pro-Palestinian speech.
Why now: The apparent double standard — arresting someone for words police had already cleared when used by the adviser's wife — is drawing criticism of politicised policing.
