Neanderthals Were Stronger, and More Caring, Than Thought
Original: Neanderthals Were Likely Stronger Than Modern Humans, but Also Cared More Than Stereotypes Suggest
New coverage of Neanderthal research suggests the extinct human relatives were physically stronger than modern humans, while also showing more compassion and care for the injured and vulnerable than old stereotypes of brutish cavemen implied. Discover Magazine reports that evidence of Neanderthals caring for sick and disabled group members challenges the long-standing image of them as primitive and uncaring.
Why now: New research or reporting is challenging popular stereotypes about Neanderthals
