Photographer spots rare otter in busy park with only a portrait lens
Original: I spotted a rare otter at a busy park. The only camera gear I had with me? A portrait lens
A photographer says they spotted a rare otter at a busy park while carrying only a portrait lens, gear normally used for people rather than distant wildlife. The story highlights how unexpected wildlife encounters can happen in crowded urban spaces, and how photographers adapt with whatever equipment they have on hand. It is a light, feel-good nature story about luck, quick thinking and wildlife turning up in surprising places.
Why now: An unusual wildlife sighting in a busy park, told with a relatable twist about using the wrong lens, is charming and shareable.
