A Leaf Suspended: When Time Stopped
Original: When Time Stopped (a.k.a. The Arbitrary Nature of Time) * In physics, the space-time continuum, is a mathematical model
A short reflection on the nature of time in physics is circulating online, framed around an image of a leaf seemingly suspended in place. The piece explains that in physics the space-time continuum is a mathematical model fusing three dimensions of space with one of time into a single four-dimensional continuum, and uses the frozen leaf to illustrate how arbitrary our sense of time can be.
Why now: The striking image of a leaf appearing frozen in time pairs with an accessible physics explanation, prompting people to share and discuss it.
