What on Earth are Judas animals?
A 'Judas animal' is a marked animal used in wildlife management: it is released after capture and, because animals are social, it leads hunters or trackers back to others of its species, which are then culled while the marked animal is spared. The technique is used to control pest or invasive populations, and the practice has drawn criticism from animal welfare groups.
Why now: People are curious about an unusual wildlife management term being explained in nature coverage.
