President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said a humanitarian operation in Oleshky, a Russian-occupied city in Ukraine's Kherson region, "clearly demonstrates that de-escalation steps are possible when Russia is the one put in a position where it has to take steps toward de-escalation." His comments frame the operation as evidence that pressure on Moscow can produce concrete results on the ground.
Why now: Zelenskyy's remarks cast the Oleshky operation as proof that pressuring Russia can force de-escalation, a notable claim amid the ongoing war.
