Joe Hill's 1910 labor song recirculates amid worker activism

Original: If the workers take a notion, They can stop all speeding trains; Every ship upon the ocean They can tie with mighty chai

Lines from Joe Hill's 1910 song 'There Is Power in a Union' are being shared widely: 'If the workers take a notion, they can stop all speeding trains; every ship upon the ocean they can tie with mighty chains.' The verses celebrate the collective power of workers to halt transport, mines, mills and armies. People appear to be sharing the poem in connection with contemporary labor organizing and strikes.

Why now: The century-old union anthem is being quoted to express solidarity with ongoing labor struggles.
