Singapore and Kuala Lumpur have entered the ranks of the world's five most polluted cities as haze from Indonesian wildfires worsens, Bloomberg reports. Dry conditions and east-to-southeast winds are expected to keep the haze hanging over the region for at least another week. The timing is awkward, with Formula 1 races scheduled in both cities while air quality remains severely degraded.

Why now: Severe transboundary haze is disrupting daily life in major cities just ahead of high-profile F1 events.
