Original: ‘We spend our days in silence’: fear and repression in Ohio as ICE terrorizes Haitian immigrants By Stephen Starr in Spr
Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio are living in fear as ICE intensifies enforcement in the area, with residents describing days spent in silence to avoid attention. Community members are calling for dignity and improved rights for immigrants, saying the crackdown has created a climate of repression in the city, which previously drew national attention over false claims about Haitian migrants.
Why now: The ramped-up ICE enforcement under the current immigration crackdown is directly affecting a community already at the center of national political controversy.
