Physicist likens proposed data centre's daily energy use to 23 Hiroshima bombs
Original: Proposed data centre would release ‘23 Hiroshima-sized atomic bombs worth of energy’ a day, physicist says
A physicist has warned that a proposed data centre would consume energy equivalent to the explosive power of 23 Hiroshima-sized atomic bombs every day. The striking comparison is drawing attention to the enormous power demands of large-scale data centres, many built for artificial intelligence, and the strain they could place on local electricity grids and climate commitments.
Why now: Comparisons of huge data centre energy demands with atomic weapons are eye-catching amid growing debate over AI's power consumption.
