Intel's next budget laptop chip may drop performance cores entirely
Original: Intel's next budget laptop chip may have no performance cores at all
Reports suggest Intel's upcoming budget laptop processor could be built entirely from efficiency cores, with no performance cores at all. The move would mark a shift for entry-level laptops, prioritizing power efficiency and cost over raw speed. Commenters are debating whether all-E-core designs can deliver acceptable everyday performance, and what this means for Intel's positioning against AMD and Qualcomm in the low-cost laptop market.
Why now: An all-efficiency-core design would be an unusual and consequential shift for Intel's budget chip lineup.
