Concerns are being raised about H5N1 bird flu spreading through raw milk, with farm cats reportedly falling ill after drinking spilled raw milk from infected dairy farms. Commentators also warn that people drinking unpasteurised milk for perceived health benefits, and claims that pasteurised milk may not be fully safe, are adding to unease about the outbreak.

Why now: Bird flu findings in dairy herds and raw milk have renewed public worries about food safety and the virus's spread to mammals.
