Former MINURSO chief calls for UN mission's closure
Original: Former MINURSO chief calls for UN mission’s closure
A former head of MINURSO, the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Western Sahara, has called for the mission to be shut down. The appeal comes as the long-standing operation continues without a political resolution to the Western Sahara conflict. The call is likely to fuel debate over the UN's role and the future of the disputed territory.
Why now: The former mission chief's public call raises fresh questions about the UN's continued presence in Western Sahara.
