Canada Rejects Trump's Trade Terms, Delays Deal Until Next US President
Original: 🟠 UPDATE Canada Rejects Trump's Trade Terms in Favor of Waiting for New US President Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has rejected the trade terms put forward by US President Donald Trump, choosing instead to wait for the arrival of a new US president. The two leaders held what Carney described as a constructive conversation about a potential agreement, and negotiators were said to be working toward a deal in the coming weeks after talks broke down in August. The move signals Ottawa's reluctance to accept Washington's current conditions.
Why now: Ongoing US-Canada trade tensions and the breakdown of negotiations are drawing attention to Canada's bargaining stance.
