Orion capsule could splash down off Cape Town after launch abort
NASA's Orion crew capsule could end up splashing down in waters off Cape Town if an emergency abort forces the spacecraft into the ocean shortly after launch. The scenario, reported by Cape Argus, reflects contingency planning for missions that place the capsule over the South Atlantic, putting South African coastal search-and-recovery assets in the picture.
Why now: The unusual possibility of a US spacecraft landing off South Africa is drawing attention in the region.
