Original: Hanwha Ocean Develops Domestic Submarine Horizontal Launch System
South Korea's Hanwha Ocean has developed a domestically produced horizontal launch system for submarines, according to Korean industry media. The system allows submarines to fire missiles horizontally from tubes rather than at a vertical angle, and the development is presented as a step toward greater independence from foreign technology in Korean submarine weapons systems.
Why now: Advances in South Korea's indigenous submarine missile-launch capability are drawing attention amid rising naval competition in Asia.
