Police chief unplugs Flock cameras after company ignored contract cancellation
Original: Police chief unplugs cameras after Flock ignores contract cancellation
A police chief physically unplugged the city's Flock safety cameras after the surveillance company continued operating them despite the city having canceled its contract. The story, reported by The Drive, has drawn attention to disputes over automatic license plate reader networks and what happens when vendors keep surveillance hardware active after agreements end. Commenters are debating whether such company behavior is common and how cities can assert control over surveillance infrastructure.
Why now: The unusual standoff between a city government and a surveillance vendor raises concerns about private companies ignoring contract terminations on public safety equipment.
