Children's Rights Don't Stop When They're Detained
Original: Children’s Rights Don’t Stop When They’re Detained
Amnesty International Australia is pushing the message that children's human rights continue to apply even when they are in detention. The children's rights group argues that detainment does not strip young people of basic protections, and is calling attention to how detained children are treated. The campaign stresses that governments remain obligated to uphold children's rights regardless of their legal or migratory status.
Why now: Ongoing concern over the treatment of children in detention facilities has kept children's rights in the public conversation.
