Haredi student arrested after wedding for evading draft
Israeli military police arrested a Haredi yeshiva student shortly after his wedding for failing to respond to army draft orders. The arrest underscores the escalating dispute in Israel over ultra-Orthodox military service exemptions, an issue that has divided the government and repeatedly reached the courts amid ongoing political tension.
Why now: The drafting of ultra-Orthodox Israelis is a highly charged political and legal issue in Israel, making each arrest contentious.
