Volunteer donors keep vital internet infrastructure patched daily
Original: krass. eine handvoll menschen retten jeden tag das gesammte internet. freiwillig. durch spenden finanziert. ab 5:45 http
German-speaking users are highlighting the small group of volunteers who maintain critical open-source infrastructure like PHP, fixing security flaws that keep large parts of the web running — unpaid and funded through donations. The discussion follows a Deutschlandfunk Kultur 'Breitband' episode on the topic, drawing attention to how fragile everyday internet services are and how little recognition or money these maintainers receive.
Why now: A public radio segment is drawing attention to the precarious, donation-funded state of volunteer-run internet infrastructure
