Cyprus Spokesman Letymbiotis Hits Out at Turkey's UN Bid
Original: Letymbiotis Calls Turkey’s UN Secretary-General Bid a Political Paradox
Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis has described Turkey's bid for the UN Secretary-General post as a political paradox, according to The National Herald. The remark signals Cyprus's opposition to Ankara's candidacy, casting it as inconsistent with Turkey's international conduct. Attention is focused on how the candidacy will fare among UN member states and what it means for relations in the eastern Mediterranean.
Why now: Turkey's campaign for the UN's top diplomatic post is drawing public pushback from Cyprus, whose government views the bid as contradictory.
