UNRWA, Human Rights Council seen as test for next UN chief

Original: Ending UNRWA, Human Rights Council should be litmus test for new UN secretary-general

Commentators in the United States argue that the next UN secretary-general should be judged by whether they move to end UNRWA and the UN Human Rights Council. The push frames both bodies as flawed in their handling of Israel and calls on candidates for the UN's top job to commit to reforming or dismantling them, making the issue a yardstick in the selection debate.

Why now: The race for the next UN secretary-general is drawing debate over candidates' positions on UN bodies seen as biased against Israel.
