Original: "The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command." - George

A line from George Orwell's novel 1984 — 'The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.' — is being widely shared as a commentary on current politics. Readers are invoking the quote to warn about governments, parties or media demanding loyalty over observed facts, framing it as a timeless caution against propaganda and the manipulation of truth.

Why now: People are using the famous Orwell quote to criticise what they see as political gaslighting or denial of obvious facts in current events.
