Ukraine deploys thousands of ground robots as winter tests them
Original: Ukraine has put thousands of new war robots into the fight. Now, they're facing fall mud and winter snow.
Ukraine has fielded thousands of new unmanned ground vehicles, or 'war robots', for logistics and combat support, but the coming season poses a serious challenge. Heavy autumn mud and winter snow can immobilize wheeled and tracked robots, clog sensors and strain batteries, testing whether the machines can keep supplying front-line troops through harsh conditions.
Why now: Reports that Ukraine's robotic systems are entering their first full mud and winter season have drawn attention to whether the technology can withstand the battlefield's toughest conditions.
