Silent SMS reportedly causes total data loss on Android devices
Original: Stille SMS sorgt für Totalverlust "Betroffen sind laut Blaszczyk und mehreren Fachmedien Android-Versionen von 12 bis 17
A so-called silent SMS is being linked to total data loss on Android phones. According to IT expert Blaszczyk and several German tech media, Android versions 12 through 17 are affected. Google is distributing a fix via current security updates for Android 14 to 17, while devices running Android 12 or 13 are left without a direct fix from Google itself.
Why now: Reports that a single message could wipe phones leave many Android users worried about whether their device is patched.
